Kiwanis is
a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the
world, one child and one community at a time.
Kiwanis International
|
 | The “Kiwanis” Name – The name “Kiwanis” means “we
trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from an American
Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis. |
|
 |
 | Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through
service to children and communities. Kiwanis members help
shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and
care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds,
raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. No problem is too
big or too small. Why? Because working together, members achieve what
one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to
learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen!
As Kiwanis clubs and members, we see it every day! |

Kiwanis in Rome Georgia
|
 |
The local Rome Kiwanis is the second oldest
Kiwanis club in Georgia. At one time the club was very large – so
large that they stopped recruiting. Through time, the club membership
waned. About 3 years ago an effort was begun to renew and rebuild the
club. Most of us present today have been part of Kiwanis for no more
than 3 years. We are growing now and we have added several new members
lately. A few of them have been younger folks as we try to appeal to
all generations. Among our members are a Superior Court judge, college
professors, administrators, teachers, investors, county extension
agent, small business owners, retirees, young professionals, managers,
etc.

We sponsor the Key Clubs at both Model and
Pepperell schools. We provide scholarships to students at both schools
each year. We adopt families during the holidays to make sure that
they have a good holiday meal. We also sponsor an art show for
students from the local schools. Winners of the art show go on to
compete on a district level. Scholarships are awarded to the winner.
