For two years running, the Kiwanis Club of Rome has sponsored a Local Art Showcase in Rome/Floyd County.  It is held at the the Rome Area Council for the Arts followed by an artist reception. The Showcase is artwork submitted for competition by students in grades 6-12 from the Rome/Floyd County Schools. The top winner for each grade, 6 through 12, in the Kiwanis Club of Rome Art Showcase may be sent to the Georgia District Art Showcase held in Carrollton, GA. The top winner of the Georgia District contest is awarded an educational scholarship in the amount of $3,500 provided by the Georgia Kiwanis Memorial Foundation.

General Rules for Contestants

  1. All contestants must be students in good standing with their respective schools and currently registered in sixth through twelfth grade.

  1. All contestants must be individual winners for their grade level as determined by the director of art for the student’s individual school. Only three winning entries will be accepted from each school for each grade level six through twelve.

  1. Art can be submitted in any of the following media: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, metal work, graphic design, mixed media and crafts. Only one art item can be submitted per contestant. This item must be the same item for all levels of competition.

  1. All entries must be original work of the contestant submitting the item.

  1. Any art deemed unsuitable or objectionable by the Kiwanis Club of Rome will be excluded from the competition.

  1. No entry fee is required for the Kiwanis Club of Rome Local Art Showcase. Winners who advance to the Georgia District Art Showcase will have a $10 per contestant fee paid by the Kiwanis Club of Rome.

  1. Art entries must be delivered to the Showcase at the Rome Area Council for the Arts (248 Broad Street, Rome, GA) on March 24th between the hours of 11am and 3pm. Commercial deliveries will not be accepted. Artwork can be picked up by the Showcase Director if prior arrangements are made.

  1. Judging will be done by grade level (sixth-twelfth) in the Kiwanis Club of Rome Showcase. The top three winners for each grade will be awarded ribbons. The top winner for each grade may have their winning entries submitted for District Competition. One additional overall winner will be selected from grades nine-twelve for the District Competition, making a total of eight entries for the District Competition from the Kiwanis Club of Rome Art Showcase. The Local Showcase overall winner will receive a ribbon and a $500 educational scholarship from the Kiwanis Club of Rome and may have the artwork submitted for District Competition.

  1. The art items must remain on display in the Rome Area Council for the Arts until the winners are announced and the reception is over on March 27th, 2008.

  1. Winners who want to participate in the District Competition must deliver their art entries to the competition or have a Kiwanis Club representative deliver them on the day of competition. Local winners will be given further instructions during the reception at the Rome Area Council for the Arts on March 27th 2008, after winners have been announced.
